Hi I’m Makenna! I’m a huge animal lover: I have a mouse, betta fish, and a cat at home. I also grew up in a golden retriever-loving family. We had the sweetest golden pup for 13 years. I don’t mind not having a dog now, as I get my daily dose of cute dogs at work! Working here has made me really appreciate the uniqueness of every dog. They all have their own personalities, like us. It’s very rewarding to see an anxious dog come here and then, with love and patience, have a breakthrough, becoming all goofy and cuddly. I’ve been with South Metro Dog Training since July 2023, and working here has been a dream come true for me. I love my team, the dogs, and the environment we’ve created at work. I never knew how it felt to genuinely love my job until I started here.
Hi, I'm Sienna! I'm a high school senior looking to become an airline or Air Force pilot after college. I've always had a special love for animals. My first pet was a fiesty quaker parrot named Zuno that I grew up with - I also rode horseback too! I currently have an 8-year-old rescue dog named Maggie May, and she is about my favorite thing ever. I started at SMDT in the end of May 2023. Having already loved dogs before, SMDT totally amplified it! It's super fun to meet so many dogs of different breeds, sizes, and personalities. I love my job at SMDT for my team and the flexibility, and of course being able to pet all the dogs. Here I've been able to come out of my shell while learning so much from the people and animals around me, and that I'll continue to be grateful for. :)
My name is Persephone - Ever since I was old enough to walk, I have always loved animals of all kind, big and small. I’m very grateful to have a life where I could grow up working with so many in my lifetime through classes, and in general. In my lifetime, I’ve had dogs, cats, gerbils, and fish. My mom worked with fostering dogs, taking them from hoarding homes and terrible environments, and bringing them to the shelter. Sometimes they’d stay with us, and I met a lot of dogs that were scared, aggressive, and unhappy. So many of them recovered over time with patience and help. It made me so happy every time, and I realized that I could make a living doing what I love. To take care of dogs, or even animals in general is a dream come true for me.
Hello, I’m Reese! I moved from Michigan in Oct. 2023, having worked previously at a board and train facility, and have worked at SMDT ever since! I’ve always had a great love and respect of animals, and dogs have been a part of my life since day one. I have two dogs, one who has had food aggression, resource guarding issues, and even some human aggression since the day I adopted him. I’ve dreamt of working in a place where I can help not only owners of dogs with these similar problems, but help the dogs themselves be able to live a more stress free life. I love that everyday is full of meeting and playing the most incredible pups and getting to love each one as if they’re our own!! South Metro Dog Training has given me so much joy, confidence, and passion to continue on this path and I’m so thankful for the amazing team I work along side of!
Hello! My name is Sandy and I have started South Metro Dog Training, Inc. as a second career. Prior I had 20+ years of law enforcement experience, ranging from patrol, narcotics investigator, crime scene, and supervision.
I grew up around dogs, and my entire adult life, I've owned at least one dog.
I have experience assisting with Police K-9's bite work, scent work and tracking. I volunteer at a local rescue and have had the opportunity to work with fear, aggression, containment and obedience issues.
I have a Masters Degree from Hamline University in Public Administration. I have a diploma from the Catch Canine Academy in core dog training skills, as well as I am a certified Canine Good Citizen Evaluator.
Dog training is very rewarding, but what makes it the most rewarding are the clients that do the work. I can come and work with your dog and teach him/her obedience once a week, but if it isn't reinforced everyday by the owner, it doesn't work. Clients who don't do the work in between sessions are wasting their money. Give me a call if you're serious about making your dog a better version of themselves.
Skills covered are sit, down, touch, name recognition, recall, leave it, drop it, off, door manners, no jumping, appropriate things to chew on, kennel training, loose leash walking and potty training if needed.
Often times it is best to send the dog to at least two weeks of training.
Skills taught are basics with distractions, heeling etc
Behavior modification if your dog has resource-guarding tendencies towards, food, toys, or people.
If your dog has aggression towards other dogs, this package is for you. We will expose your dog to safe interactions with other dogs, and provide you with realistic expectations and management tools.
This package is for dogs with human aggression, not just resource-guarding. We will work to build a rapport, in a safe manner, and provide your dog with safe exposure to people. We will provide you with realistic expectations and goals and management tools.
These packages include lifetime support for the dog, with complimentary phone, email and text consultation. After every package is complete the owner will receive a demonstration on the skills the dog has learned and how to continue with the training to be successful. Ask about a rescue discount, if your dog is from the humane society and/or a rescue.
SMDT is staffed from 6 am -9 pm every day.
Your dog will be treated as if it is part of the family with play time, outside time, and cuddle time. Dogs are only in the kennel if they need a break or are dog aggressive.

The owner! Dog trainers can start a dog with a solid foundation but if the owner doesn't maintain consistency and put in the work, the dog will revert back to old undesirable behavior.
Dogs enjoy mental stimulation. This is a good way for your dog to use his skills and a fun way for the owner to interact with his/her dog.
